Hvad er DVD Audio?

Med anvendelse af MLP Lossless fra Dolby Laboratories kan audio-

dvd'er indeholde op til seks kanaler med 24-bit/96 kHz lyd, inklusive en

separat lavfrekvent baskanal. Dette kan sammenlignes med de to

kanaler med 16-bit/44,1 kHz lyd på cd'er! Desuden kan en audio-dvd

også rumme to kanaler med 24-bit/192 kHz lyd, hvilket er langt bedre

end noget andet audioformat, der tidligere har været tilgængeligt.

Audio-dvd'er kan også tilføje et visuelt element til musikken. Pladerne

kan indeholde billedgallerier, sangtekster, notater eller en hvilken som

helst kombination af situationsbilleder, animation og tekst. Producerne

og kunstnerne kan endda indtale kommentarer i stil med de muligheder,

der findes med mange video-dvd'er. Og som det er tilfældet med video-

dvd'er, kan hver enkelt audio-dvd desuden rumme filmoptagelser med

tilhørende lyd i Dolby Digital i op til 5.1-kanals-format.
