2. Unpacking the Subwoofer 3. Positioning the Subwoofer
The PV1D is heavy and we strongly suggest that it is
unpacked close to its nal working position by two
people working together.
The table above illustrates the component parts that
are packed with the subwoofer.

In the unlikely event that anything is missing please in
the rst instance contact the retailer from whom you
purchased the subwoofer.
Remove the protective lm from the front of the display.
Environmental Information
This product complies with international directives,
including but not limited to:
i. the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in
electrical and electronic equipment,
II. the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and
restriction of CHemicals (REACH)
iii the disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment (WEEE).
Consult your local waste disposal authority for
guidance on how properly to recycle or dispose
of this product.
The PV1D may be used freestanding on the oor or be
installed into custom-built furniture. The positioning of
a subwoofer is generally less critical than for full-range
speakers. Furthermore, the PV1D is also more versatile
than most subwoofers in terms of positioning thanks
to its on-board equalisation and optimisation system
that can compensate to some extent for less than
ideal positioning. Section 5.4 describes use of the
equalisation system.
Best results, however, will be obtained if the PV1D is
placed between the left and right speakers or in the
vicinity of one of them. Placing a subwoofer to the side,
but still to the front of the listeners is an acceptable
compromise if domestic considerations dictate, but we
recommend you avoid placing the subwoofer behind
the listeners. If two PV1D subwoofers are to be used
it is best to position one near the left speaker and one
near the right speaker. The diagram above illustrates
subwoofer positioning.
For all applications, the PV1D rests on its rubber base,
which provides a degree of vibration isolation from the
supporting structure.
Note:Likeallspeakers,theproximityofroom
boundariesaffectsthesoundofasubwoofer.Bass
levelincreasesasmoresurfacescomeintoclose
proximity.Themoreboostgainedfromtheroom,
thelowerthesubwoofer’svolumecanbesetand
thelesshardthesubwooferhastowork.
Using two or more subwoofers in a single installation
can improve performance by averaging the effects of
low-frequency room resonances and enabling a higher
maximum volume level.
Additionally, in the case of two subwoofers used in a
2-channel audio system, stereo separation may be
maintained to the lowest frequencies, but only if each
channel has its own subwoofer located close to the
appropriate satellite speaker.
