Freezing fresh food
Freezing food yourself
If you are freezing food yourself, use only
fre sh, und a m a ge d food .
The following foods are suitable for
freezing:
Meat and sausage products, poultry and
ga m e, fish, v e ge ta b le s, he rb s, fruit, ca ke s
a nd pa strie s, pizza, ready meals,
leftovers, egg yolk and eggĆwhite.
The following foods are not suitable
for freezing:
E ggs in she lls, soure d cre a m and
m a yonna ise , green sa la d s, ra d ishe s a nd
onions.
Blanching vegetables and fruit
To re ta in c olour, flav our, arom a a nd
v ita min C , ve ge ta b le s and fruits should b e
b la nche d p rior to free z ing.
Bla nching is the brie f im m e rsion of
v e geta b le s a nd fruit in b oiling wa te r.
Lite rature on fre e z ing a nd bla nc hing is
a v aila b le in bookshops.
Packing food
1. Pla c e the food in the wra p p ing.
2. Pre ss out a ll the air.
3. Seal the wrapping.
4. Label the wrapping with the conte nts
and date.

Wrapping paper, greaseproof paper,

Freezing and storing
food
Purchasing deepĆfrozen
food
S Check that the packaging is not
damaged.
S Check the sellĆby date.
S The te m p e ra ture of the sup e rm a rket
freezer should be -18 °C or low e r. If not,
the stora ge life of the food is re d uced.
S If possible, transport deepĆfrozen food
in an insulated bag and place quickly in
the freezer compartment.
