Trimming Hedges
During operation of the hedgetrimmer, guide it
carefully and take a secure stance. Working on a
ladder, or in similar unstable positions can be dan-
gerous.
Ensure no animals, or other person are in the work
area.
Shaping
The hedge should be trimmed to acheive a form, which
should widen toward the bottom on both sides. This
improves the penetration of light to the lower extremi-
ties. A general guideline is: Approx. 10 cm slant for
each 1 meter of bush height, as in Illustration C.
The top of the shrub can also be given a rounded off
column shape.
Cutting sequence
First cut both sides, starting at the bottom and working
to the top: this prevents cuttings from falling into the
area where you are still working, as in Illustration D.
Then trim the top: Where the branches have grown ex-
tremely long, cut back the hedge in several stages, as
in Illustration E.
Benefit: Short cuttings are better suited for composting.
Optimum trimming times
Hedges with green leaves are best trimmed in June
and October, evergreens in April and August, while
confiers and other fast-growing shrubs should be
trimmed about every six weeks from May onward.
General information
When older hedges are to be cut back a substantial
amount, use pruning shears to trim thicker branches to
the desired length before starting work with the
hedgetrimmer. To shape precisely, run a taught line
between the extreme edges of the hedge and then trim
along it. Ensure that the blade does not come into con-
tact with any objects made of hard material that could
damage it, such as fencing wire or metallic plant sup-
ports.
Maintenance
Stop and remove battery from the hedgetrimmer.
Note: To ensure long and reliable service, carry out
the following maintenance regularly.
Lubricate the cutter blades before and after use. Apply
oil so that it runs between the two blades.
Regularly check for obvious defects such as damaged
blades, loose fixings and worn or damaged
components.Check that covers and guards are undam-
aged and correctly fitted. Carry out necessary mainte-
nance or repairs before using. If the hedgetrimmer
should happen to fail despite the care taken in manu-
facture and testing, repair should be carried out by an
authorised customer services agent for Bosch garden
products.
For all correspondence and spare parts orders, always
include the 10 digit order number of the hedgetrimmer!
Battery Maintenance
Only charge the battery with the charging
unit suppled with the product.
DO NOT leave the battery in the charger
for prolonged periods when the mains
supply is turned off, this can result in
battery damage.
Charging
The charging process begins as soon as the mains
plug of the charger is inserted into the power supply
socket and the battery is placed into battery charger
slot as in illustration F. Disconnect charger from power
supply before connecting/disconnecting battery.
The intelligent battery charger recognises the charged
condition of the battery and switches a fully charged
battery immediately to trickle charging. By means of
this charging process, the battery is protected and al-
ways fully charged.
Rapid charging is only possible when the temperature
of the battery is between 0°C and 50°C. If the battery is
hot after heavy use, it may typically take 30 minutes
before charging commences.
A new battery-operated BOSCH tool or one which has
not been used for an extended period achieves full per-
formance only after five charging and discharging cy-
cles.
A substantial drop in operating period per charge indi-
cates that the battery must be replaced.
DO NOT leave the battery in the charger for prolonged
periods when the mains supply is turned off, this can
result in battery damage.
