vibration, as well as prevent the blade from being
damaged.
X Cut only with sharp blades; they cut cleaner, faster and
put less strain on the motor while cutting.
X For longer blade life, use bi-metal blades. They are
more flexible and less prone to breaking.
Hints for optimum use
Sawing wood
Warning! Use extra caution when cutting overhead and pay
particular attention to overhead wires which may be hidden
from view. Anticipate the path of falling branches and debris
ahead of time.
Warning! Inspect the work site for hidden gas pipes, water
pipes, or electrical wires before making blind or plunge cuts.
Failure to do so may result in explosion, property damage,
electric shock, and/or serious personal injury.
X Clamp the workpiece securely and remove all nails and
metal objects. Holding the work by hand or against your
body leaves it unstable and may lead to loss of control.
X Place the shoe firmly against the work to be cut.
X Let the blade run freely for a few seconds before starting
the cut.
X Whenever possible, work with the shoe (4) pressed
against the workpiece. This will improve tool control and
reduce tool vibration, as well as prevent the blade from
being damaged.
Sawing metal
Be aware that sawing metal takes much more time than
sawing wood.
X Use a saw blade suitable for sawing metal. Use a fine-
tooth saw blade for ferrous metals and a coarser saw
blade for non-ferrous metals.
X When cutting thin sheet metal, clamp a piece of scrap
wood to the back surface of the workpiece and cut
through this sandwich.
X Spread a film of oil along the intended line of cut.
X When cutting metal piping, do not cut directly through
the pipe as you would saw a wooden dowel. Instead, cut
around the circumference of the pipe to avoid pinching
the blade. Only one section of the blade should be in
contact with the pipe.
Pocket cutting - wood only
Pocket cutting is used to cut a hole in a piece of material
without cutting from the side.
X Measure and mark the required pocket cut.
X Fit a saw blade suitable for pocket cutting.
X Rest the shoe (4) on the workpiece in such a position
that the blade forms an appropriate angle for the pocket
cut.
X Switch on the tool and slowly feed the blade into the
workpiece. Make sure that the shoe (4) remains in
contact with the workpiece at all times.
Pruning
Warning! Do not use the tool while in a tree, on a ladder or
on any other unstable surface. Be aware of where the
branch will fall.
X Cut downward and away from your body.
X Make the cut close to the main branch or tree body.
Maintenance
Your Black & Decker tool has been designed to operate over
a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool
care and regular cleaning.
X Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool using a
soft brush or dry cloth.
X Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth.
Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
Never let any liquid get inside the tool and never
immerse any part of the tool into liquid.
