Handheld User Guide 239
Scan Mode: Set whether your handheld scans for and selects a wireless network
automatically. The Scan Mode options will vary depending on your service
provider or network operator.
Active Network: This field displays the name of the network that is currently in
use.
Owner
The text that you type on this screen appears on the Lock screen. If you do not
type any owner information, a default message appears on the Lock screen.
Name: Type your name. You can type a maximum of 38 characters in this field.
Information: Type any additional information that you want to appear on the
Lock screen. You should include your own (or your company’s) contact
information in the event that your handheld is lost. You can type a maximum of
126 characters in this field.
Scan Mode options Description
Automatic,
Automatic A,
Automatic B
If you select Automatic, the handheld automatically scans for the
network with the best available wireless coverage according to the
Preferred Roaming List (PRL).
If you select Automatic A or Automatic B, the handheld scans for
the network with the best available wireless coverage according to
the PRL automatically. If the handheld cannot detect a network
according to the PRL, then the handheld searches for cellular A (or
B) systems. Contact your service provider or network operator for
more information.
Home Only The handheld remains on the home network. If you are outside of
your home network’s wireless coverage area, your handheld does
not scan for or select another network.
Note: On the Network screen, you can register with the BlackBerry wireless network.
Click the trackwheel to view the menu and click Register Now. Unless you have been
advised to do so, or if you have just received your handheld and it is not working, you
should not register your handheld more than once.
Your home network is marked with an
H on the Network screen.
