In caso di indice di massa corporea compreso tra 25 e 29,9 negli adulti, è opportuno cercare di
raggiungere una stabilizzazione o una leggera riduzione del peso per impedire l'insorgere di obesità
e disturbi concomitanti.
In caso di sovrappeso è tuttavia sempre consigliabile mirare a una duratura perdita di peso in pre-
senza di
- patologia già presente legata al sovrappeso (ad esempio, ipertensione, diabete mellito di tipo 2),
- cattiva distribuzione del grasso (aumento del peso concentrato sulla pancia = "corpo a mela")
- patologie già esistenti che possono essere peggiorate dalla condizione di sovrappeso (ad esem-
pio, problemi alla schiena o alle articolazioni, asma)
- elevato grado di sofferenza psicosociale
Nota. Per i bambini e i ragazzi di età compresa tra i 5 e i 19 anni valgono i seguenti valori classi-
ficati secondo le disposizioni dell'OMS:
