Il est conseillé aux adultes dont l’IMC se situe entre 25 et 29,9 d’envisager une stabilisation ou une
légère réduction de leur poids afin de prévenir l’obésité et les maladies associées.
Cependant, une mise au régime durable en cas de surpoids est recommandée dans les cas suivants:
- maladie déjà présente liée au surpoids (par exemple hypertension, diabète de type 2),
- répartition disgracieuse de la masse adipeuse (prise de poids au niveau de l’abdomen de
type «pomme»)
- maladies existantes aggravées par le surpoids (par exemple problèmes dorsaux ou
articulaires, asthme)
- forte pression psychosociale
Remarque : Pour les enfants et les jeunes de 5 à 19ans, les valeurs indicatives sont classées
selon les critères de l’OMS, de la manière suivante:
