3. Een gesprek met één persoon

Gebruik uw hoortoestel terwijl u met één persoon in gesprek bent,

bijvoorbeeld een familielid of een vriend(in). Zoek een rustig plekje

op. Vertel dat u een hoortoestel in hebt, en vraag of uw gespreks-

partner gewoon wil praten. Kijk hem of haar aan. Als het toestel

goed is ingesteld, zult u meer verstaan dan eerst.

4. Naar de radio of televisie luisteren

Luister naar de radio of televisie. Begin met het nieuws en kies

daarna een ander programma. Vraag of iemand met een ‘normaal

gehoor’ het volume van de radio of televisie op een aangenaam

niveau wil instellen. Pas het volume van uw hoortoestel eventueel

aan.

Kunt u de radio of televisie niet volgen, vraag uw audicien dan om

het hoortoestel anders in te stellen. Hij of zij kan u ook informeren

over andere mogelijkheden, zoals het gebruik van een ringleiding

voor radio of televisie.

5. Een gesprek in een groep

Groepsgesprekken worden vaak bemoeilijkt door achtergrond-

geluiden. Luister naar de verschillende stemmen. Probeer het

karakter of het ritme van een stem te herkennen en aan een per-

soon te koppelen. Concentreer u op diegene die u wilt verstaan.

Indien de mogelijkheid van directionaliteit is geprogrammeerd door

uw audicien, zal de stem van de persoon waarnaar u kijkt, extra

versterkt worden. Verstaat u iets niet, vraag dan of de betrokkene

wil herhalen wat hij zei.

Zorg ervoor dat u het gezicht van uw gesprekspartner(s) goed kunt

zien en dat er voldoende licht is. Dan kunt u namelijk ook liplezen.

Voorkom dat u in het licht kijkt. Ga met uw rug naar het raam

zitten, zodat u de anderen beter kunt zien. Vraag of men langzaam

en duidelijk wil praten. Harder praten helpt niet.
