DEFROSTING FROZEN FOOD
1. Due to the varying thickness and shape of foods, it is not advisable to completely
defrost food in the microwave oven, as this may result in irregular defrosting. There
may also be dripping and some spots may be cooked while others are still frozen.
When using frozen food, you should therefore only defrost the food to 70% with the
microwave oven. This helps optimally with further processing of the food.
2. To defrost food evenly, you should turn it frequently during defrosting.
3. To defrost fatty (heavy) meat, heat it shortly in the microwave oven and then put it in
a pot at room temperature or heat it with short breaks in between.
4. If you want to defrost a whole chicken or frozen food with irregular shapes, you
should wrap the legs or thinner parts with a bit of aluminum foil so that these are not
heated as fast as thicker parts. With large pieces of meat, wrap the sides with
aluminium foil so that they are defrosted evenly by the vertical microwaves.
5. Remove the ice from time to time.
TIPS & DETAILS
The length of cooking time depends on the following characteristics of foods:
Beginning temperature: The lower, the longer the cooking time
Density: The denser, the longer the cooking time
Humidity: The drier, the longer the cooking time
Form: The thicker, the longer the cooking time
Weight: The heavier, the longer the cooking time
The foods should be covered in order to:
o accelerate the heating process ,
o to avoid the drying up of foods,
o to avoid fat splashes in the cooking chamber,
Exceptions: Bread, pastries/cookies, bread-coated foods and those foods, that shall stay
crispy should not be covered.
