5 Installing the Driver
Software in Windows 95
Specially developed driver software is supplied for use in
Windows 95. This true 32-bit device driver (VxD) provides full
support for all features of Microsoft Windows 95.
The COMMON-ISDN-API (CAPI) 2.0 provided supports both
Windows applications and at the same time applications in
DOS boxes. For more information on CAPI, see the chapter
The Applications Interface CAPI 2.0 beginning on page 37.
US only: In addition to the D-channel protocol, ISDN us-
ers in the USA must find out their SPID.
SPID stands for Service Profile IDentifier. A SPID is a number
assigned by your ISDN service provider to each subscriber in-
terface. SPIDs let the ISDN switch know which ISDN services
a given logical terminal (ISDN device) can access. This is par-
ticularly important for ISDN telephones.
AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA installation in Windows 95
comprises two main steps:
1. installing a new hardware components with the Win-
dows 95 Hardware Wizard
2. installing the driver software
The individual steps are described in detail in the following
section.
5.1 Installing the New Hardware
Component
To install the AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA, proceed as fol-
lows:
1. Restart your computer.
2. Insert the AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA in the
PCMCIA slot.
