Displaying the Local Image
18 Alice – 3 Working with Alice
3.6 Displaying the Local Image
If you have a camera connected to your computer, your local
image will be transmitted to the remote site whenever a con-
nection is established. You have the option of viewing this
picture in a small square on your own screen to check how
you appear to your conversation partner.
Click the button on the left to view the local image.
You can also view the local image before establishing a con-
nection. In this case it will be displayed in CIF resolution (352
x 288 pixels) and occupies the entire Alice screen.
During a connection you can move the local image in the
square by clicking it with the mouse. If you drag this image
out of the Alice screen, it will be displayed in CIF resolution
in an external window.
To move the local image back into the Alice screen, close the
local image like any other Windows dialog.
The local image will now appear again as a small picture in
the Alice screen.
Double-click the image of the remote site to view it in a sepa-
rate window. Now you can click the picture of the remote site
with the mouse and move it anywhere on your desktop.
If you do not have a camera connected to your computer, or if
the camera is not sending any signals to the computer, Alice
transmits the default image that is saved as a bitmap graph-
ic in the installation folder. This graphic can be replaced with
any graphic desired, as long as it satisfies the following re-
quirements:
The graphic file must be located in the Alice installation
folder.
It must be in Microsoft bitmap format, have a minimum
of 352 x 288 pixels with at least 256 colors.
The image must be saved as ALICE.BMP.
