Set up an account recovery contact
If you’re concerned that someone may use access to your account to change your
password and lock you out of your account, You can set a trusted account recovery contact
to help you regain access.
1. Do one of the following:
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > [your name], then tap
Password & Security.
On your Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Apple ID , then
select Password & Security In The sidebar.
2. Select Account Recovery, add a recovery contact, then authenticate with Face ID,
Touch ID, a passcode or password.
3. If you’re in a Family Sharing group, the members of the group are recommended. Or
You can choose one of your contacts.
4. If you select a family member, they’re added automatically. If you select a contact, they
must accept the request.
5. After they accept your request, you see a message that they have been added as your
account recovery contact.
Remove a recovery contact
If the person set as your recovery contact is someone you no longer trust and you would
like to remove them as your recovery contact, You can remove that contact.
1. Do one of the following:
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > [your name], then tap
Password & Security.
On your Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Apple ID , then
select Password & Security In The sidebar.
2. Under Recovery Assistance, choose the Recovery Contact you would like to remove,
then remove the contact.
