Een HR-WTW ziet er aan de buitenkant uit als een rechthoekige kast. In deze kast zitten

de volgende onderdelen:

A. een toevoerventilator;

B. een afzuigventilator;

C. een HR-warmteterugwinblok, waarin de warmte van de afgezogen naar de ingeblazen

lucht wordt overgebracht;

D. een luchtfilter dat stof uit de buitenlucht filtert;

E. een luchtfilter dat vuil en vet uit de afgezogen lucht filtert zodat deze het toestel niet

vervuilen;

F. een condensafvoer om condens dat ontstaat in het warmteterugwinblok af te voeren

naar het riool;

G. een vorstbeveiliging om bevriezing te voorkomen;

H. een zgn. bypassklep voor ventilatie met koele buitenlucht in de zomer maanden.
