For metode tre knappes det inn en binær kode. Den binære koden vil alltid havne på
Kode–knappen

som er den samme på alle nivåene. En kan selv velge den binære
koden eller bruke en kode som allerede er lagt inn i en IR-mottager eller IR-sender.
Det finnes to typer IR-mottagere. En eldre type av mottagere der kodeinnstillingen gjøres
med en 12-polet omkopler eller nyere der IR-mottageren er programmerbar. Prinsippet er
det samme uansett hvordan den binære koden lages. I Fig 3 ser du en 12-polet omkopler
avbildet. Omkoplerne 1, 4, 6 og 12 står i ”On”-stilling de øvrige står i ”Off”-stilling.
